IPL 2025: Preity Zinta Says Shreyas Iyer Was Key to PBKS'

Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta recently revealed that Shreyas Iyer was the centerpiece of their auction strategy ahead of IPL 2025. Responding to a fan on her “PZ Chat” session, Zinta shared that the entire team was built around Iyer, describing him as a tactical and aggressive leader on the field but a humble and soft-spoken person off it. Iyer, who was bought for INR 26.75 crore, has lived up to expectations, scoring 288 runs at a strike rate of 182.27. As PBKS eye a strong finish, much of their playoff hopes now rest on their star skipper’s shoulders.

“The Whole Auction Revolved Around Him for Us as a Team,” Says Preity Zinta on Shreyas Iyer

IPL 2025: Preity Zinta Says Shreyas Iyer Was Key to PBKS'

Punjab Kings (PBKS) co-owner Preity Zinta has opened up about the franchise’s grand strategy at the IPL 2025 mega auction, admitting that Shreyas Iyer was always at the center of their plans. Responding to a fan during her interactive segment “PZ Chat” on X (formerly Twitter), Zinta praised Iyer’s leadership qualities, calling him a “down-to-earth and soft-spoken” individual off the field but a “tactical and aggressive” force on it. She revealed that PBKS had designed their entire auction approach around acquiring Iyer, eventually landing him for a massive INR 26.75 crore.

Preity Zinta expressed her happiness, saying, “We are very happy that he is leading Punjab Kings and even happier we could get him at the auction, as he was our first choice.” The franchise’s faith seems to be paying off as PBKS have managed five wins out of nine games so far. Although their recent clash against Kolkata Knight Riders was washed out due to rain, Iyer’s batting form has been a major positive — scoring 288 runs at an incredible strike rate of 182.27, with 21 sixes to his name.

As PBKS push for a playoff spot, much of their hopes rest on Iyer’s consistency and leadership. With the business end of the tournament approaching, Zinta’s bold move at the auction might just prove to be a masterstroke.
